CC - 1991-24 - Removal of Fall Conference frm League of CA CitiesRESOLUTION NO. 91-24 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD RECOMMENDING REMOVAL OF THE 1991 LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA CITIES FALL CONFERENCE FROM THE CITY AND FROM THE CITY AND COUNTY OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA WHEREAS, the United States of America, as approved by the United Nations and the Congress of the United States, utilized military force to free the nation of Kuwait from the invasion and tyranny imposed by Saddam Hussein and the military forces of Iraq; and WHEREAS, every level of government as a representative of the public is affected by and is vitally concerned with the well-being of our Nation, its mission, and goals with regard to the Persian Gulf War; and WHEREAS, contrary to the position of a majority of persons in the United States of America, the City of San Francisco appears to have officially sanctioned opposition to the Persian Gulf War and taken the position contrary to the public interest by declaring their community to be a sanctuary for those who opposed the Gulf War; and WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead is cognizant of freedom of expression and the right to dissent, but does believe San Francisco should be accountable for their position and should not benefit by being the host City for numerous communities that strongly opposed the official position of the City of San Francisco; and WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead does not believe that it is the best interest of League of California Cities to schedule a conference in a City which has declared itself a sanctuary to persons who are opposed to a policy supported by a vast majority of the people of the United States. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD, DOES HEREBY FIND,_DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That the City of San Francisco be eliminated as the site for the 1991 Fall League of California Cities meeting, and that an alternative site be selected and utilized for the Fall Conference. SECTION 2. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution and shall forward a copy to the League of California Cities, City of San Francisco, and all other cities in the Los Angeles County.
