CC - 1991-60 - Denied resolution[ A) I D RESOLUTION NO. 91-60 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD SUPPORTING THE CONTINUED USE OF THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES CONNECTED WITH THE BLUE LIN WHEREAS, the people of the Los Angeles area 'el med the inauguration of Blue Line service between Long Bea and downtown Los Angeles on July 1, 1990, as an important new publ c transportation service; and WHEREAS, the Blue Line now carries an aver ge of 32,000 riders daily after its first year of operation, more than double that expected; and WHEREAS, this ridership, and anticipa d increases in use, significantly reduces traffic on area fr eways and streets, which directly and positively affects air qua ity and quality-of-life for area residents; and WHEREAS, future mass transit of its will depend, in large part on the success of the Blue Line; a WHEREAS, surveys of Blue Lin riders and potential riders indicate that public safety is key factor in whether or not people use the Blue Line; and WHEREAS, Blue Line rider and their property have thus far remained free from crimina activity; and WHEREAS, the Rosemea City Council can not conceive of any rational or compelling eason to cancel the Blue Line public safety contract of the Los An eles County Sheriff's Department, which has been responsible for his enviable record. NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City Council of Rosemead supports the cont• ued use of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for p lic safety service on the Blue Line.
