CC - 1986-59 - Opposing Additional Phone sesrvice charges0
RESOLUTION NO. 86-59
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD
OPPOSING THE ADDITIONAL SERVICE CHARGES
TO BE ASSESSED TO LOCAL PHONE CUSTOMERS
FOR TRADITIONAL MAINTENANCE SERVICES
WHEREAS, the Federal Communications Commission has ordered that
telephone wiring inside homes will become the property and
financial responsibility of phone customers on January 1,
1987; and
WHEREAS, repair and maintenance of those wires has traditionally been
the responsibility of local phone companies, whose costs are
included in the monthly service charges paid by all
customers; and
WHEREAS, the phone company has fostered an inherent dependency on
that service resulting in many customers paying additional
fees for no additional services; and
WHEREAS, the proposed additional charge to customers for retention of
that service will represent undeserved windfall of revenue
for local phone companies; and
WHEREAS, Pacific Bell could receive in excess of $82,000 each year in
additional revenue from Rosemead residents alone because of
the new charges.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Rosemead City Council is
steadfastly opposed to the additional service charges to be assessed
by Pacific Bell for services which were included previously in the
standard rate.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 9th day of December, 1986.
