CC - 1987-27 - Opposing Ab 1204RESOLUTION NO. 87-27
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD
OPPOSING AB 1204 (CHACON)
WHEREAS, the current twenty-nine (29) day residency requirement for
registering to vote allows voters a reasonable period of
time to become familiar with the issues at stake during an
election; and
WHEREAS, the twenty-nine (29) day requirement allows the County
Registrar of Voters adequate time to identify and verify the
addresses of persons wishing to vote; and
WHEREAS, AB 1204 would eliminate those safeguards by allowing persons
to register and vote in statewide elections on the day of
the election; and
WHEREAS, AB 1204 might serve to promote the registration of
disaffected and/or transient voters easily influenced by
political factions; and
WHEREAS, AB 1204 could result in statewide elections marred by
problems surrounding voter fraud.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Rosemead City Council opposes
AB 1204 because of the negative influence that the-measure could have
on the current electoral process used in California.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED this 14th day of July, 1987.
