RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD
RECOGNIZING THE CRITICAL SHORTAGE OF ADULT
AND JUVENILE DETENTION SPACE IN
LOS ANGELES COUNTY AND URGING VOTER SUPPORT
OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY PROPOSITION J ON THE
NOVEMBER 4, 1986 BALLOT
WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Rosemead and the County of Los
Angeles have a vital and direct interest in the capability
of the County to house both its adult and juvenile
prisoners; and
WHEREAS, there are currently over 22,000 inmates in the existing
County facilities which have a rated capacity of 13,400; and
WHEREAS, without expanded and additional facilities the Sheriff may
forced by the courts to prematurely release some offenders
into the community; and
WHEREAS, Proposition J on the November 4, 1986 ballot is a general
obligation bond measure which, if passed by 2/3 of the
voters, will provide $96,000,000 to allow Los Angeles County
to expand its adult and juvenile detention capacity by over
4,500 inmates.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the city council of the City of
Rosemead
1) Supports the passage of Los Angeles County Proposition J - the
Jail Bond Measure; and
2) Urges the citizens of Rosemead to vote on November 4, 1986.
