RESOLUTION NO. 85-39
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ROSEMEAD OPPOSING THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE
IRWINDALE WASTE-TO-ENERGY FACILITY
WHEREAS, the residents of the San Gabriel Valley are concerned
about their environment; and
WHEREAS, the San Gabriel Valley currently has one of the
highest records of.first stage smog alert; and
WHEREAS, the proposed' Irwindale facility would markedly
increase the number of dangerous pollutants in the air; and
WHEREAS, the increase in truck traffic to serve the facility
would add more pollutants plus increase the traffic conjestion on
nearby highways and streets; and
WHEREAS, the operation of a waste-to-energy plant this size
has not been previously tested; and
WHEREAS, the problems associated with the removal of toxic
waste generated by the plant have not been properly addressed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City.
of Rosemead as follows:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Rosemead urges the
California Energy Commission and the South Coast Air Quality Manage-
ment District to oppose the Irwindale Waste=to-Energy Facility based
on the adverse effect the project would have on the San Gabriel
Valley.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk is directed to transmit certified
copies of this Resolution to each member of the California Energy
Commission, South Coast Air Quality Management District, Contract
Cities Association and all cities in.the Pomona and.San.Gabriel
Valley.
SECTION 3. The Mayor is hereby authorized to affix his sig-
nature to this Resolution signifying its adoption by the City
Council of the. City of Rosemead, and the City Clerk is directed to
attest thereto.
