CC - 1985-59 - Deep Pocket Inititive• RESOLUTION NO. 85-59 0 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD SUPPORTING THE "DEEP POCKETS INITIATIVE" WHEREAS, California municipalities are being sued and held responsible for all damages in cases where there is only minor fault on the part of the city; and . WHEREAS, California municipalities are thus required to pay for damages that were not the result of the negligence of the city or any of its employees; and WHEREAS, in the last two years over $25 million tax dollars have been paid by California municipalities to satisfy such "deep pocket" judgments; and WHEREAS, an initiative measure known as the Fair Respon- sibility Act of 1986 is presently being circulated for signature to the voters of the State of California, which would assure that cities would be held financially responsible only to the extent of their fault. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Rosemead resolves as follows: SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Rosemead hereby supports the Fair Responsibility Act of 1986 and urges the voters of the State to give this measure their serious consi- deration and support. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution and send a copy of this Resolution to Senator Montoya, Assemblywoman Tanner, Taxpayers for Responsibility, the County Supervisor's Association, the League of California Cities and the California Contract Cities Association.
