CC - Item 4C - Request to Reserve Portion of Rosemead Park• • TO: BILL CROW E, CITY MANAGER FROM: MICHAEL D. BURBANK, DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATIOetl DATE: APRIL 18, 2005 RE: REQUEST TO RESERVE A PORTION OF ROSEMEAD PARK Pastor Jonathan Wu of the Evergreen Baptist Church is planning on hosting another "Rosemead Big Day" on Sunday, June 12, 2005. (See Attachment) Pastor WWs church in conjunction with seven other churches will go throughout Rosemead performing various Community service projects, such as, neighborhood/ yard clean-up, small beautification projects, etc., etc. At the conclusion, they would like to reserve the southern portion of Rosemead Park for a get together, which would include a picnic luncheon and music. Last year, this activity involved over 500 volunteers. This year, they expect more because they have more churches involved. The southern portion works well for them because they have access to the pool parking lot and those at Rosemead High School that front Mission Drive. RECOMMENDATION: This activity was very successful last year and benefited a number of residents. I would recommend that Pastor Wu and his volunteers be allowed to reserve the southern portion of Rosemead Park this year. Attachment 07-n-b9s/ sb COUNIM. I want to thank you once again for your great help with last year's Rosemead Big Day. We are extremely grateful and pleased with the incredible support and cooperation we received from you, Michael, Don, and other Rosemead staff. This letter is to officially inform you of our plans to have another Rosemead Big Day, planned for Sunday, June 12, 2005. We currently have seven partnering churches (up from five last year), so we anticipate that the turnout of volunteers in the various service projects to be higher. Last year we had approximately 500 who participated. The community service projects will take place from 9:00am - 12noon. We will also host a luncheon, to be held at Rosemead Park, for all of our volunteers at the conclusion of their service projects. Please let me know if there might be any service opportunities that you or other members of the Rosemead city staff might be aware of. These might include street maintenance, outdoor clean-up of private residences or public spaces, and other projects that can be accomplished in the service time. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. My work number is 626-280- 0477 x106. My email is lcwuea~ebcla.orq. Thank you for your cooperative assistance and partnership.
