A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ROSEMEAD OPPOSING ASSEMBLY BILL #1233 RELATIVE.
TO MANDATORY DISTRICT ELECTIONS FOR CITIES'
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City.of. Rosemead recognizes
the existing law whereby cities are authorized to provide for the
election of council members by districts or at-large; and
WHEREAS, AB 1233 authored by Assemblyman Peter Chacon, would
require the election of council members by districts according to
an arbitrary ethnic mix ,formula; and
. WHEREAS, members'of the Rosemead City Council are strong
proponents of'local control and home rule; and
NOW, THEREFORE,, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL.
OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1, ,The City Council of, the City of Rosemead
hereby opposes a: d&! rges• defeat, of,.Assembly Bill #1233 as '
authored by Assemblyman Peter Chacon.
SECTION 2, ;,The Mayor is;hereby authorized to execute this
Resolution on behalf of the".City Council. of the City of Rosemead
signifying its adoption„ and the City.Clerk.is hereby authorized,
to attest thereto.
SECTION. 3.. The City,Clerk.is hereby directed to forward
executed copies of this Resolution to Senator Ralph Dills and
Assemblyman Frank Vicencia, members of the Assembly Committee
on Elections and Reapportionment.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 8th day of May, 1979.
