RESOLUTION NO. 73-9
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD
DECLARING SUPPORT FOR THE PUBLIC EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM AS
AUTHORIZED BY THE EMERGENCY EMPLOYMENT ACT OF 1971
WHEREAS, at a meeting of the County of Los Angeles Emergency
Employment Act Task Force, on November 21, 1972, the future of the
Emergency Employment Act and the"potential impact that its rumored
expiration could have on the Public Employment Program in the County
of Los Angeles were explored; and
WHEREAS, there is speculation nationally that the Public
Employment Program may not be renewed after June 30, 1973; and
WHEREAS, this speculation has formulated from reports that the
Federal Government feels that the Public Employment Program has not
been effective, and that program agents and their sub-agents have
had less than acceptable experiences with the program; and
WHEREAS, it is the experience of the City of Rosemead that
this perspective is inaccurate, considering the vital needs that the
Public Employment Program has allowed the City of Rosemead to meet.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Rosemead as follows:
Section 1. The City Council of the City of Rosemead hereby
expresses its support of the Public Employment
Program, as it has been established by the
Federal Government and administered by the County
of Los Angeles as a Program Agent.
Section 2. The United States Congress, and President Richard
M. Nixon, are hereby urged to critically review
the importance and positive impact that the
Public Employment Program has made in the County
of Los Angeles before taking action to erase the
Program.
Section 3. The Mayor is hereby authorized to affix his
signature to this Resolution on behalf of the members
of the City Council of the City of Rosemead, and the
City Clerk is directed to attest thereto.
