OCTOBER 24, 2000
The regular meeting of the Rosemead City Council was called to order by Mayor Clark at 8:02
p.m. in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, 8838 E. Valley Boulevard, Rosemead, California.
The Pledge to the Flag was led by Councilman Vasquez
The Invocation was delivered by Pastor Tony Rodriguez of the First Presbytarian Church

CITY OF ROSEMEAD
The following resolution was presented to the Council for adoption:

DECLARING OCTOBER 27, 2000, AS CONGRESSMAN MATTHEW G.
"MARTY" MARTINEZ DAY IN THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD

Mayor Clark stated that she appreciated the work that Congressman Martinez did on the
water funding for the groundwater cleanup in the San Gabriel Valley.
C. RESOLUTION NO. 2000-57 - PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 22-28,2000 AS
CHILDHOOD LEAD POISONING PREVENTION WEEK
The following resolution was presented to the Council for adoption:

PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 22-28, 2000 AS CHILDHOOD LEAD
POISONING PREVENTION WEEK
Juan Nunez, 2702 Del Mar, Rosemead, stated that many homes still have lead paint in
them and how will this Resolution affect them?
Councilman Bruesch responded that this is a voluntary program from the Department of
Housing and Urban Development (HUD). HUD is asking local agencies to make the community
aware of the dangers in lead paint.

Councilman Bruesch requested that on the extension of agreement that the dates of
equipment, etc. also be updated.
CC-A ACCEPTANCE OF BIDS AND AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR 1999-2000
STREET RESURFACING AND STREET LIGHTING IMPROVEMENTS
ON VARIOUS CITY STREETS
Juan Nunez, 2702 Del Mar, Rosemead, stated that the L.A. County resurfacing project on
Graves Avenue was done without fixing the potholes.
Ken Rukavina, City Engineer, stated that the streets have been evaluated and the
locations are highlighted where they will remove and replace those portions of the street prior to
the overlay. Mr. Rukavina stated that the project Mr. Nunez is referring to is a County project
and Rosemead was not involved.
Councilman Bruesch asked if the luminaries will be replaced.
Mr. Rukavina stated that on the streets that have no luminaries, underground conduits
will be placed with luminaries added.
MOTION BY COUNCILMAN BRUESCH, SECOND BY COUNCILMAN VASQUEZ
that the Council accept bids and award the project to Silvia Construction, Inc. in the amount of
$561,603.00; and authorize the Mayor to sign the contract on behalf of the City. Vote resulted:

A. COUNCILMAN BRUESCH
Announced that our late City Treasurer, Hugh Foutz will be honored by Rosemead's
Sister City in Zapopan, Mexico, as founder of the Sister City organization. A plaque will be
placed in the park at Zapopan dedicated to the City of Rosemead.
Distributed D.A.R.E. ribbons to the Council.
B. MAYOR CLARK
Attended the Senate Select Committee meeting in the City of Burbank regarding
chromium in the water.
