CC - 1973-87 - Opposing Proposal for a 6.5 billion Mass transit Plan• \J RESOLUTION NO. 73-87 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD OPPOSING THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA REGIONAL RAPID TRANSIT DISTRICT PROPOSAL FOR A $6.5 BILLION MASS TRANSIT PLAN. WHEREAS, the Southern California Regional Rapid Transit District has proposed a $6.5 billion mass transit plan; and WHEREAS, the RTD plan comtemplates no major improvements in service to the San Gabriel Valley, and the proposed improvements in service largely reflect an effect to sustain and expand commercial and industrial development in Central Los Angeles without regard to the San Gabriel Valley; and WHEREAS, the RTD plan, as proposed, will do little to reduce smog in view of the fact that Environmental Protection Agency studies indicate that the second family car and some primary family cars traveling short distances are major smog contributors which would not be substantially reduced; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Rosemead go on record as opposing new taxes to San Gabriel Valley residents to support the RTD plan, and further urge valley officials to withhold support from the present proposal but instead seek sound alternatives to provide a transportation program designed to serve the Southern California area at cost commensurate with benefit. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to San Gabriel Valley Cities, the Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County, the Assemblymen and Senators in the State Legislature from the San Gabriel Valley as well as the press and radio and television media.
