A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ROSEMEAD ENCOURAGING AND SUPPORTING THE BID
OF THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES TO STAGE THE SUMMER
GAMES OF THE XXII OLYMPIAD IN 1980.
WHEREAS, the City of Los Angeles has submitted a bid
to the International Olympic Committee for permission to stage
the Summer Games of the XXII Olympiad in Los Angeles in 1980; and
WHEREAS, the City's bid has received the endorsement of
the President of the United States, the Governor of California, the
United States Olympic Committee, and the Southern California Committee
for the Olympic Games; and
WHEREAS, in its bid for the 1976 Games, the City was able
to demonstrate to the satisfaction of the International Olympic
Committee that our area possesses all the sports facilities which
would be needed to stage the Summer Olympic Games;.and
WHEREAS, staging of the Games in Los Angeles would not only
promote the spirit of the Olympic Movement but would.also enhance the
stature of our region by placing it in the role of host to the world; and
WHEREAS, the 1932 Summer Olympic Games, which were staged in
Los Angeles, were a huge success and brought worldwide favorable
attention to our region as a tourist attraction;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Rosemead hereby encourages and supports the bid of the
City of Los Angeles tostage the Summer Games of the XXII Olympiad in
1980.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED this 14th day of May, 1974.
