A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ROSEMEAD, CALIFORNIA, URGING THE
PROMPT PLANNING•AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE
PECK ROAD SPREADING BASIN AS A WATER-
ORIENTED REGIONAL PARK.
WHEREAS,'water-oriented recreational facilities are
in great.demand, especially in Southern California; and,
WHEREAS, the energy crisis coupled with inflation
have compelled people to seek recreational facilities as close
to home as possible; and,
WHEREAS, the Peck Road Spreading Basin located at
the juncture of the Sawpit Wash and the Rio Hondo Channel
immediately to the north of the City of E1 Monte could readily
be developed to serve the people of E1 Monte, South E1 Monte,
Arcadia, Temple City, Rosemead, Monrovia, Duarte, Bradbury and
Azusa; and,
WHEREAS, it.,,will be necessary to include land.in
excess of 'that presently owned by the Los Angeles County Flood
Control District at said location in order to provide adequate
facilities for the people who will be attracted to such a
water-oriented recreational facility;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ROSEMEAD, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS.FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the.area of the Peck Road Spreading
Basin, consisting oT all of the property owned, operated or to
be acquired by the Los Angeles County Flood Control District,
together with other properties northerly thereof and southerly
of Live Oak Avenue and westerly of Peck Road, should be developed
as a water-oriented recreational facility, which facility should
include a "Bonelli Park" type of swimming area, baseball fields,
picnic areas, boating ramps, equestrian areas, camping facilities
and other compatible recreational facilities. Y
Section 2. That the City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of th s.Resolution and shall cause copies hereof to be
forwarded to Kenneth Hahn, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors
of Los Angeles County, to Peter Schabarum, Supervisor of the 1st
Supervisorial District, to the Los Angeles County Parks and
Recreation Department, to Seymour Greben, Director of the Los
Angeles County Parks and Recreation Department, to the Los Angeles
County,,Parks and.Recreation Commission, and to each.of the cities
hereinbefore referred to by name.
