RESOLUTION NO. 74-63
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD$
CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF LOS
ANGELES COUNTY TO RENAME THE EL MONTE JUDICIAL DISTRICT
AS THE RIO HONDO JUDICIAL DISTRICT.
WHEREAS, Section 71045 of the California Government Code states
that "Each judicial district shall be named by the Board of Supervisors
of the County in which it is situated, and the municipal or justice court
established in the district shall be designated by that name..."; and,
WHEREAS, said Section 71045 of the California Government Code further
provides that the Board of Supervisors shall select a name which as nearly
as possible identifies the communities embraced in the district"; and,
WHEREAS, the judicial district which includes the City of Rosemead
likewise embraces the cities of E1 Monte, South E1 Monte, and La Puente,
and other communities in surrounding unincorporated territory; and,
WHEREAS, the name "E1 Monte Judicial District" in no way identifies
any community embraced in the district other than the City of E1 Monte; and,
WHEREAS, the City of E1 Monte which is the situs of the E1 Monte
Judicial District has encouraged the name change to a name more descriptive
of the entire district; and
WHEREAS, there is ample precedent for the assigning to a judicial
district of a name other than the name of the principal city encompassed
in said district, such as:
Antelope Judicial District which includes the cities and
communities of Lancaster, Palmdale, Roosevelt, Fairmont, Lake
Huges, Llano, Pearblossom, Little Rock, Big Pines and part of
the Bouquet Canyon area;
Citrus Judicial District which includes the cities of Azusa,
Baldwin Park, Covina, Glendora, Industry, Irwindale and
West Covina, andcther communities in the surrounding unincor-
porated territory;
East Los Angeles Judicial District which includes the cities
of Montebello and Commerce, and other communities in the
surrounding unincorporated territory;
San Antonio Judicial District which includes the cities of
Huntington Park, Bell Gardens, Cudahy, Maywood, Vernon, and
other communities in the surrounding unincorporated territory;
Santa Anita Judicial District which includes the cities of
Monrovia, Arcadia, Duarte, Bradbury, and other communities in
the surrounding unincorporated territory;
South Bay Judicial District which includes the cities of
Manhattan Beach, Lomita, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Palo
Verdes Estates, Gardena, Torrance, Rolling Hills, Rolling
Hills Estates, Lawndale, and other communities in the surrounding
unincorporated territory;
and,
WHEREAS, the Rio Hondo is the name of a river which passes through
or near the boundaries of all the communities embraced within the E1
Monte Judicial District; and;
WHEREAS, the name Rio Hondo Judicial District would as nearly
as possible identify all the communities embraced in said District;

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD, CALIFORNIA
DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County
be requested to designate the judicial district embracing the City of
Rosemead as the "Rio Hondo Judicial District" and to designate the municipal
court in such district as "The Rio Hondo Municipal Court", and that this
name change be accomplished at the earliest possible opportunity.
SECTION 2. That the judges of the judicial district embracing
the City of Rosemead be urged to join with the City of Rosemead in
requesting and urging such name change.

of the Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County; to Peter Schabarum,
Supervisor of the 1st Supervisorial District; to all the municipal court
judges of the E1 Monte Judicial District; to all cities within said
judicial district; and to all service clubs and civic organizations
within the City of Rosemead.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 19th day of August, 1974.
