A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF'
THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD REQUESTING MEMBERS
OF THE CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE TO REPEAL
AND AMEND THOSE SECTIONS OF THE CALIFORNIA
GOVERNMENT CODE PERTAINING TO THE STATE
EMPLOYEE RETIREMENT SYSTEM FOR STATE
LEGISLATORS WHO ARE NO LONGER SERVING "
DUE TO LOSS OF ELECTION OR APPORTIONMENT
WHEREAS„ the City of Rosemead recognizes a need for a
Retirement System for State Legislators who have served the
State of California for an appropriate period of time; and
WHEREAS, the people of the State of California have
through amendments.to the State Constitution and through the
actions of their elected representatives provided fair and
equitable compensation for those choosing to serve as members
of the Legislature; and
WHEREAS, recent amendments to`the California Government
Code pertaining to retirement have had the effect of unjustly
enriching certain members of the Legislature at the expense
of all California taxpayers, to the.extent that their action
has'caused'a disservice and loss of confidence by the people
of the State of California; and
WHEREAS, government at all levels is instituted fqr
the protection, security and benefit of the people, it is,
therefore,'demanded and incumbent upon those elected to serve
the people that they enact just laws not for the benefit of
the elected, but for the benefit of those electing them.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE.CITY.OF-ROSEMEAD
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1. That the.City:Council of the'City of Rosemead
does hereby respectfully request that the members of the.Cali-
fornia Legislature individually and collectively immediately
act to amend or repeal those sections of the Government Code
in order to'restore confidence in our system of government and
provide for a fair and equitable reti=rement.compensation plan
for themselves and those who may follow in the future.'
SECTION 2. That the City Council of the City of Rosemead
does hereby request that the governing bodies of all munici-
palities throughout the.State of California join in this action
by way of a like or.similar resolution.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this Resolution and shall cause certified copies thereof
to be forwarded to all interested parties.
