SUBJECT: PURCHASE AGREEMENT FOR WORK TRUCKS
SUMMARY
As part of the City's Vehicle Replacement Budget, staff included the purchase of 3 new
work trucks for the Public Services Division. After researching truck vendors and types,
the City learned that the County of Los Angeles recently conducted a competitive bid for
similar work trucks. Staff has obtained information related to the County of Los Angeles
bid and requests the City Council's approval to use this bid to purchase 3 new work
trucks.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the agreement for the purchase of 3
new work trucks from Wondries Ford, using the County of Los Angeles Purchase Order
No. 0802923 and authorize the City Manager to execute the necessary documents.
DISCUSSION
Background
During the preparation of the City's Fiscal Year 2008-2009 budget, the Public Works
Department included funds for the purchase of new work trucks to help perform
maintenance work requests. The trucks are used in day-to-day operations including
bulky item collection, park and landscape maintenance, facilities maintenance, graffiti
removal, and street maintenance.
The following is a list of City vehicles that are recommended for replacement due to
vehicle age, condition, and mileage.

Staff researched several truck options and learned that the County of Los Angeles
conducted a competitive bid process for a % ton work truck in January 2008
(Attachment 1). After reviewing the bid specification, staff determined that the vehicle
will meet the City's needs for maintenance work requests.

In accordance with the City's Purchasing Policy, the City Council may use a competitive
bid conducted by another public agency to purchase goods and services. Known as
"Piggybacking" on another contract, this process allows the City to receive the same
competitively bid price without having to spend a significant amount of staff time to
formally bid and purchase the same goods or services.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Funds are included in the City's Vehicle Replacement Budget for the purchase of this
vehicle. The total purchase price for three work trucks, including tax, will be
$87,633.84. The cost for each truck is $29,211.28.
