ON SAN GABRIEL BOULEVARD (RUSH/HELLMAN)
Attached for your consideration is an engineering proposal from Willdan Associates for the
design of street lighting improvements on San Gabriel Boulevard from Rush Street to
Hellman Avenue (City limits). The future street lights will be maintained by the Southern
California Edison Company.
The proposal includes the preparation of two street lighting layouts. The first layout will
include installation of additional lights on wooden poles which will be installed and operated
for a 3 year period. The second layout will include removal of all lighting on wooden poles
and installation of new underground street lights on marbelite (concrete) poles. These
marbelite street lights will be installed by the Southern California Edison Company at no
cost to the City. The Southern California Edison Company requires existing wooden pole
lighting to be in place for a 3 year period in order to amortize the cost of the new marbelite
street lights.
Staff anticipates that the new underground street lights will be constructed in conjunction
with the future San Gabriel Boulevard Underground Utility District (as identified in the
Infrastructure Management report).
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Rosemead Redevelopment Agency approve the attached
engineering proposal and direct staff to begin the preparation of the necessary plans.
