CC - Municipal Code Amendment 95-02 - Automotive Related Uses - Box 065qD TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF ROSEMEAD CITY COUNCIL FROM: FRANK TRIPEPI, CITY MANAGER DATE: AUGUST 22, 1995 SUBJECT: MUNICIPAL CODE AMENDMENT 95-02 Automotive Related Uses C-3 and M-1 Zones, Citywide On July 17, 1995, the Planning Commission held a public hearing on the draft ordinance. The Commission expressed a concern that such additional regulation could create a negative impact on the economic development of the city. Staff noted that the intent of this ordinance is to provide the City with a tool to clean up the commercial areas. Staff finds that this effort will result in improving the economic desirability of the area. Some automotive uses are very unsightly and, as existing, could detract a cleaner business from wanting to locate near them. The Planning Commission concurred with this finding and voted 5-0 to recommend that the City Council approve the proposed amendment. A copy of the Planning Commission staff report is attached for your review. Page 3 of the Commission's report provides a quick summary of the changes that would occur. RECOMMENDATION The Planning Commission recommends that the City Council approve Municipal Code Amendment 95-02, amending the Rosemead Municipal Code to require automotive related uses to secure a conditional use permit. Staff recommends that the City Council introduce the draft ordinance and schedule this item for second reading at next City Council agenda. COUNCIL AGENDA AUG. 2 2 1995 ITEM No.
