RE: CONSIDERATION OF INCREASING THE MILEAGE REIMBURSEMENT
RATE
The IRS approved standard business mileage rate for 1998 is 32.5 cents per mile. The
City's current mileage reimbursement rate is 20.0 cents per mile, a difference of 12.5
cents per mile.
During Fiscal year 1996-97, approximately $1,060 was expended for mileage
reimbursement. If the City were to adopt the IRS approved rate of 32.5 cents per mile,
1996-97 mileage reimbursement would have increased by $400 (38%).
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council adopt the standard mileage rate of 32.5 cents
per mile.
