CC - Item 5B - Proposed Clean California Community Designation Sign LocationsROSEMEAD CITY COUNCIL
TO: THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BEN KIM, CITY MANAGER
DATE: MAY 26, 2026
SUBJECT: PROPOSED CLEAN CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY DESIGNATION SIGN
LOCATIONS
SUMMARY
The City Council will review and provide feedback on proposed locations for the Clean California
Community Designation road sign awarded to the City by Caltrans. This item is presented by staff
for discussion and direction.
On April 21, 2026, City staff presented the Clean California Community Designation road sign
awarded by Caltrans to the City Council. The designation recognizes the City's efforts to meet
specific program criteria, including hosting community cleanup events and collection drives,
providing litter abatement education to local schools and the broader community, as well
as implementing greening and beautification projects such as rain gardens to filter pollutants from
stormwater runoff. The City Council directed staff to return with recommended sign locations for
review and feedback.
In response, staff evaluated potential placement locations throughout the City and identified two
proposed sites for Council consideration: one location along Rosemead Boulevard to maximize
visibility to motorists traveling through the City, and a second location at Rosemead Park to
provide visibility within a prominent community gathering space. City staff have approached
Caltrans regarding the proposed location on Rosemead Boulevard and have been informed that the
installation is contingent on submission and review of appropriate permit application
documentation.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council review the proposed sign locations and provide direction
and feedback.
