STAFF REPORT
TO: THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BEN KIM, CITY MANAGER <, //
DATE: MAY 26, 2026
SUBJECT: COMMUNITY EVENTS — COFFEE WITH THE MAYOR AND A
COUNCIL MEMBER
SUMMARY
On May 12, 2026, the City Council discussed the Mayor's proposal to establish a monthly
"Coffee with the Mayor and a Councilmember" community event. Following the discussion, the
Council requested that the item be returned for further consideration, including concepts for how
the meetings would be conducted.
DISCUSSION
Key discussion points included the following:
• The purpose of the event is to provide an informal setting for two council members to
engage with residents, encourage open dialogue, and receive community feedback.
• Discussions would be open-ended and conversational, rather than based on a formal
agenda, allowing residents to raise topics important to them.
• Each meeting would generally include the Mayor and one councilmember. Prior to each
event, the Mayor would ask which of the four councilmembers are interested in
participating and would select the participating members. Meetings could include the
Mayor and one councilmember or two councilmembers without the Mayor.
• Any follow-up items identified during the meeting would be referred to the City Manager
for appropriate response.
• Meetings would be held monthly at a City facility, such as the Rosemead Community
Center or Garvey Center.
• Proposed meeting hours would generally be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
