PKC - Item 3D - Fall Special Events Update ROSEMEAD PARKS COMMISSION MEMORANDUM TO: THE HONORABLE CHAIR AND PARKS COMMISSION FROM: TOM BOECKING, DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION DATE: SEPTEMBER 1, 2026 SUBJECT: 2026 FALL SPECIAL EVENTS UPDATE SUMMARY This item will provide the Parks Commission with an overview of the special events scheduled for the upcoming fall season. Staff will highlight upcoming community events and activities and provide information regarding event dates, locations, and planned programming. DISCUSSION The Parks and Recreation Department is excited to once again offer a variety of special events throughout the fall season. This year's lineup includes returning community favorites, as well as new activities designed to provide residents of all ages with opportunities to celebrate the season and connect with the community. Pumpkin Dive – The Annual Pumpkin Dive will be held on Saturday, September 26, at the Rosemead Aquatic Center. The pool will be transformed into a floating pumpkin patch, where participants will have the opportunity to select the perfect pumpkin and decorate it. The event is open to children ages 3 to 16, with children ages 7 and under are required to be accompanied in the water by an adult age 18 or older. Two sessions are offered, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. and 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. The registration fee is $10 per participant. Fall Fiesta/Día de los Muertos – The Fall Fiesta/Día de los Muertos celebration will take place on Saturday, October 3, from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Rosemead Park. The event will feature live entertainment, community performances, carnival games, laser tag, moon bouncers, arts and crafts, and a variety of food and merchandise vendors. This year, the Department is excited to introduce a new drone show beginning at 7:45 p.m., featuring 22 unique images that will light up the night sky. Movie in the Park – The Fall Movie in the Park will take place on Saturday, October 10, at Rosemead Park. Activities will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the feature film, Toy Story 5, beginning at dusk. The event will include free giveaways and family-friendly activities. Food trucks will also be available for attendees to purchase dinner, snacks, and desserts. Parks Commission Meeting September 1, 2026 Page 2 of 2 Pumpkin Patch – The Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with CultivaLA to introduce a new Pumpkin Patch event at the Del Mar Community Garden. The event will take place on Saturday, October 17, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Participants will have an opportunity to select their own pumpkin to take home and carve while also enjoying a slice of pie. Reservations are required due to limited parking and space at the Community Garden. Haunted House – The Rosemead Community Recreation Center will once again be transformed into a Haunted House from Friday, October 23, through Sunday, October 25. The Haunted House will be open from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. each evening and will provide participants with a spooky and entertaining Halloween experience. The recommended age for participation is 7 years and older. Trunk or Treat – The Department's Annual Trunk or Treat will take place on Saturday, October 31, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Jess Gonzalez Sports Complex. Children and families will be able to collect treats from creatively decorated vehicle trunks, participate in a costume contest, enjoy carnival games and arts and crafts, and watch an outdoor movie. Food trucks will also be available with food and treats for purchase. Holiday Craft Fair – The Garvey Center will host its Annual Holiday Craft Fair on Saturday, November 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event will feature handmade arts and crafts from local vendors, providing attendees with an opportunity to shop for unique gifts while enjoying the holiday season. Vendor registration is currently available at a cost of $5 per table for residents and $10 per table for non-residents, with a maximum of three tables per vendor. Admission to the Holiday Craft Fair is free to the public. These events provide a variety of opportunities for residents and families to participate in seasonal activities throughout the fall. Staff will continue to promote each event through the City's website, social media platforms, recreation brochure, and other outreach efforts to encourage community participation. STAFF RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that the Parks Commission receive and file the information regarding the Parks and Recreation Department’s upcoming fall special events.
