AQUATICS
Recreation Swim – With Summer coming to an end, the Rosemead Aquatic Center and Splash
Zone will be adjusting their recreation swim hours. Beginning Tuesday, August 25, recreation
swim will be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, concluding on
Thursday, September 3. Additionally, the Splash Zone will remain open on weekends only from
August 29 through September 27, with operating hours from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. To help everyone
beat the heat, special recreation swim hours were offered for Saturday, August 29, and Sunday,
August 30, from 12:00 to 4:00 pm at Rosemead Aquatic Center. Both facilities are set to be open
on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, from 12:00 to 3:00 pm.
Fall Swim Lessons – The Fall Swim Session will begin on September 19 and continue through
October 17, with classes held on Saturdays. All class levels and time slots are booked for the
season. We are consistently seeing great progress in our participants.
Lap Swim - The new fall session of Lap Swim has officially begun, offering one of the best full-
body workouts to keep patrons active and healthy this season. Fall Lap Swim hours are Monday
through Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, and Saturdays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Lap Swim is a
great way to stay active this fall.
Aqua Fit – Aqua Fit starts its new fall session. Water fitness is a great way to stay active and is
easy on the joints. Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:10 pm. It is a
simple, effective workout suitable for a variety of fitness levels.

GARVEY CENTER
Senior Craft Class - The Garvey Center’s Senior Craft Class continues to inspire creativity,
connection, and fun among local seniors. Through engaging hands-on projects, participants enjoy
activities that help keep their minds active by improving memory, focus, and problem-solving

skills, while also supporting fine motor development. Most importantly, crafting encourages self-
expression, builds confidence, and gives participants a rewarding sense of accomplishment.
On Monday, August 10, class participants designed colorful sand art succulent displays. Using
colorful sand and succulent plants, each senior created a special piece that reflected their
individual style and creativity. The class was filled with laughter, conversation, and artistic
energy as everyone proudly showcased their finished projects. A total of 25 seniors participated
in the class
Senior Chair Exercise Class - The Garvey Center offers a senior chair aerobics class designed
for older adults. These classes combine gentle exercise with stress-reduction techniques and are
led by the friendly Garvey Cener staff. The Chair aerobics class is intended to keep seniors
moving and improve their flexibility and range of motion, all while seated in a chair for safety
and comfort. These classes are perfect for seniors looking for a way to stay active and improve
their mental and physical health and beat the heat this summer. The chair aerobics classes are
held on Monday and Thursday 10:00 am to 10:45 am. The class averages between 20 and 25
participants per class.
Mahjong and Mingle - Mahjong and Mingle is a free interactive program that introduces new
players to the game. The goal of the program is to teach the basics while socially connecting new
seniors to each other. Rules and gameplay will be taught by Garvey Center staff in English and
Mandarin. The program takes place on Tuesday’s 9:00-11:00 am and Thursday’s 12:30-2:30 pm.
Senior Fiesta Luncheon - The Senior Fiesta luncheon will be held on Thursday, September 17,
2026, from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm at the Garvey Center. The Senior Fiesta luncheon will have
lunch consisting of tacos, rice and beans, dessert and more. The luncheon will have fiesta themed
décor and raffles for all to enjoy! Musical entertainment provided by Bobby Z, where he will
play everyone’s favorite classic hits. Tickets for the event are on sale now and available while
supplies last at the Garvey Center.
SPECIAL EVENTS
9/11 Remembrance Ceremony - This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the most tragic
attacks against America on United States soil. This year’s remembrance ceremony will take
place on Friday, September 11, at 6:00 pm. The ceremony will take place adjacent to the
Rosemead’s September 11th Memorial in the Civic Center Plaza.
As part of this year's 25th anniversary remembrance, we are also hosting a 9/11 Essay Contest
open to participants ages 10 through adult. The theme is “Remembering Together, Writing
Forward.” Essays will be accepted through Thursday, September 3, at 6:00 p.m.
Moon Festival - The Annual Moon Festival is set for Saturday, September 12, 2026. We are
very excited to be partnering with VOCO Media to host this year’s Moon Festival. The event is
from 2:30 to 11:00 p.m. and will encompass a three-block stretch of Valley Boulevard from

Walnut Grove Boulevard to Ivar Avenue. Event producers have confirmed over 100 vendors.
There will be an Opening Ceremony held at 5:30 pm at the Main Stage (near Ivar Ave).
2026 State of the City – The Annual State of the City will take place on Monday, September 21,
at 6:00 pm at the Garvey Community Center. This free community event will provide residents
with an opportunity to hear updates on the City’s accomplishments, ongoing projects, and future
priorities. Complimentary light refreshments will be available for the first 200 guests.
Registration is available through the City’s website.
MISCELLANEOUS
Fall Registration – The Fall Recreation Brochure has been mailed to residents and is also
available online. Registration for fall programs, classes, and activities will begin on Monday,
August 31, at 8:00 am. Residents are encouraged to review the brochure and register early, as
space is limited for many programs.
Youth Advisory Committee - Applications for the 2026–2027 Youth Advisory Committee are
now being accepted! Through this innovative and interactive program, students in Rosemead will
have the opportunity to provide input on local issues that affect youth and teens while developing
leadership and civic engagement skills. Committee members are required to attend one meeting
per month. Throughout the year, members may also participate in field trips to local community
partners to gain firsthand knowledge of community issues. In addition, the committee will assist
with planning the annual Youth Multicultural Fair.
Participant Requirements:
• Must be entering or currently enrolled in 7th through 12th grade
• Must live within the City of Rosemead (address will be verified)
• Must be in good academic standing
Students interested in serving on the committee must complete the application online on the
City’s website by September 4, 2026.
Special Olympics – The Parks and Recreation Department is excited to continue our partnership
with the Special Olympics by offering a new fall season of soccer. This program is aimed for
individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Trained staff and volunteers will
work with athletes to teach fundamentals, teamwork, and sportsmanship with an opportunity to
compete in the Special Olympics Local Competition.
