Attached is a letter from Rosemead High School requesting that the City contribute $2,900
towards the cost of purchasing T-shirts that each participant receives in the annual Run Walk
Against Drugs, Alcohol & Tobacco on Saturday, October 27, 2001. The City has granted
similar requests in the past and there are funds in the 2001-02 Budget for this purpose.
RECOMMENDATION
Approve the request in the amount of $2,900.

Rosemead High School will be holding its 14" Annual Run/Walk Against Drugs, Alcohol & To-
bacco on Saturday, October 27, 2001. Targeted student participants reside in the city of Rose-
mead, and range in age from kindergarten to twelfth grade.
The purpose of the event is to give students a chance to be recognized while taking a positive
stand against drugs, alcohol and tobacco. Each participant will be given a t-shirt, and prizes will
be awarded to the first ten places, boy and girl, at each grade level.
Plaques will also be awarded to the first, second and third place schools, rooms and staffs having
the greatest number of their population participate. Many schools, including the high school, are
using this event as part of their Red Ribbon Week activities.
As in past years, we are asking the City of Rosemead to help support this community-wide ac-
tivity by reimbursing the school for the cost of purchasing and printing the souvenir t-shirts that
each participant receives. Last year, that amounted to approximately $2900.00.
We could not host this important annual event without your support, and look forward to co-
sponsoring it again with you this year!
