SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND
AUTHORIZATION TO SEEK BIDS FOR TRAFFIC SIGNAL
IMPROVEMENTS AT DEL MAR AVENUE AND GRAVES AVENUE
SUMMARY
Plans and specifications have been prepared for traffic signal modifications at Del Mar
Avenue and Graves Avenue, to include dedicated left-turn phasing in the north/south
direction. The Community Development Commission will consider the approval of the
plans and specifications and authorization to advertise for bids.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Community Development Commission approve the plans
and specifications for the Traffic Signal Improvements at Del Mar Avenue and Graves
Avenue (Attachment A)' and authorize advertisement for bids by the Commission
Secretary.
ANALYSIS
The project involves modifying the existing traffic signal at Del Mar Avenue and Graves
Avenue by adding left-turn phasing in the northbound and southbound directions of Del
Mar Avenue, which will include installation of new traffic signal poles, vehicle heads,
conduit, conductors, inductive loops, pull boxes and replacement of the existing service
cabinet.
The proposed schedule for construction, based on an anticipated 80-day materials
procurement period, is as follows:

September 6, 2007
Award Contract
September 25, 2007
Begin Work
January 7, 2008
Complete Work
February 22, 2008
The plans and specifications have been reviewed and are acceptable to the City
Engineer. The Engineer's estimate for construction is $102,500.

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Funding for the project is included in the FY 07-08 Budget utilizing Community
Development Commission funds.
