RE: APPROVAL OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND AUTHORIZATION TO
SEEK BIDS FOR 1999 -2000 STREET RESURFACING AND LIGHTING
IMPROVEMENTS ON VARIOUS CITY STREETS
The subject project includes the following improvements:
• Asphalt- rubber overlay on various City streets, as shown in Exhibit "A ", as well as
miscellaneous concrete repairs and installation of handicapped access ramps in
compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) where needed.
• Street lighting improvements on various streets, as listed in Exhibit "B ". The new
streetlights will be owned, operated, and maintained by Southern California Edison,
upon construction completion of the improvements.
The proposed schedule for construction is as follows:

The specifications have been reviewed and are acceptable to the City Engineer. The
Engineer's estimate for construction is $550,000.
The asphalt concrete overlay project has been approved by the State for the 1998 State
Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) funds. The STIP will provide the City of
Rosemead $243,000 in State funds for construction of the project. In order for the City to
obtain the state share from the STIP funds, the state requires that the project be awarded
for construction prior to November 19, 2000. _

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council approve the plans and specifications and authorize
advertisement for bids by the City Clerk.
