CC - Item 2A - ProclamationPROCLAMATION w -7111 SAFE COMMUNITIES MONTH March 2013 WHEREAS, the vitality of the City of Rosemead depends on how safe we keep our home, neighborhoods, work places and communities; and WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead's number one priority is Public Safety as over 43% of the City's general fund budget is allocated for law enforcement to ensure the well -being of residents and businesses; and WHEREAS, Rosemead's commitment to Public Safety is producing positive results as major crimes have decreased by more than 28% over the past four years, with violent crimes being reduced by over 50% during this period; and WHEREAS, all elements of the Rosemead community are uniting to create a safe, healthy, crime -free environment through a variety of robust community - based programs; and WHEREAS, through Rosemead's unique "contract city /Chief of Police" organizational model in partnership with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and innovative programs such as Rosemead Public Safety CONNECTIONS, monthly Community Safety meetings and School Resource Officers, this community is making a positive difference by educating our youth and adults, by providing positive alternatives and role models for children and by unifying the support of the local community, including schools, businesses, religious organizations, service clubs, law enforcement and city government. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Rosemead City Council does hereby proclaim March 2013 as SAFE COMMUNITIES MONTH in the City of Rosemead and urges all citizens, public and private institutions and all businesses to increase their participation in our community's crime prevention efforts to enhance quality of life for all.
