CC - Item 3A - Proclamation of Nation Preperation MonthPROCLAMATION National Preparedness Month September 2013 WHEREAS, National Preparedness Month is a nationwide coordinated effort sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security each September to encourage Americans to prepare for emergencies in their home, businesses, and schools; and, WHEREAS, this effort aims to increase public awareness concerning the importance of preparing for emergencies and to persuade individuals to take action; and WHEREAS, during the month of September, the City of Rosemead will continue to urge residents to take measures to make themselves and their families better prepared by taking appropriate preparedness measures to be self - sufficient for seven to twenty-one days; and WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead has previously declared 2013 as the year to "Get Ready, Rosemead" and has hosted a variety of community-based activities and events over the year designed to educate the community about their role in a disaster, facilitating individual and family disaster readiness, and increasing survivability during and after and an emergency through personal preparedness; and WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead remains committed to emergency preparedness and affirms that every resident can help reduce the risks associated with a disaster by learning how to better prepare ourselves, our families and our community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Rosemead City Council does hereby proclaim the month of September 2013 as "National Preparedness Month," in the City of Rosemead and to encourage all citizens, businesses, public and private agencies, and educational institutions to participate in ongoing emergency preparedness efforts.
