CC - Item 2A - Proclamation for Crime Prevention MonthWHEREAS, The City of Rosemead values the health and safety of all our citizens; and WHEREAS, Crime and the fear of crime harm our trust in others and in civic institutions, threatening the community's health, prosperity, and quality of life; and WHEREAS, Citizens of all ages must be made aware of prevention efforts that could protect themselves, their families, neighborhoods, and coworkers from crime and its harmful effects; and WHEREAS, The personal injury, financial loss, and community deterioration resulting from crime are intolerable and require investment from the whole community; and WHEREAS, Adults must invest time, resources, and policy support in effective prevention and intervention strategies for youth, so too must teens actively engage in driving crime from their communities; and WHEREAS, Effective crime prevention programs excel because of partnerships with the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department (Temple Station), Rosemead Public Safety CONNECTIONS, Neighborhood and Business Watch programs, other government agencies, schools, faith communities, and individuals as they nurture shared responsibility and instill pride; and WHEREAS, City of Rosemead Public Safety Department and Rosemead Public Safety CONNECTIONS Forum are supporters of crime prevention efforts, promoting awareness through a variety of educational programs and collaborative efforts to make neighborhoods, businesses, and schools safer including the Community Academy, Red Ribbon School Assemblies, and Drug Awareness Workshops; and WHEREAS, Crime Prevention is a shared responsibility and each of us can reduce the fear we face by better understanding and learning how to better safeguard ourselves, our property, and our community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Rosemead City Council does hereby proclaim the month of October 2013 as "Crime Prevention Month" in the City of Rosemead and encourages all citizens, government agencies, public and private institutions, and businesses to invest in the power of prevention and work together to make Rosemead, "Today's Small Town America," a safer community.
