Montebello Boulevard/Towne Center Drive Resurfacing Median and Landscape Enhancements Project—Award of Contract As a part of the City's Fiscal Year 2014-15 Capital Improvement Program, the City Council approved the"Montebello Boulevard/Towne Center Drive Resurfacing, Median and Landscape Enhancements" Project. This project includes the grinding of existing pavement and the reconstruction of the roadway with new asphalt concrete, the replacement of damaged sidewalk, and extensive improvements, including the addition of landscaping, of the medians along Montebello Boulevard, Towne Center Drive, an ySan Gabriel Boulevard. MATTERS FROM CITY MANAGER&STAFF- None 4. MATTERS FROM MAYOR&CITY COUNCIL Council Member Ly requested that when improving sidewalks, more deROxe coloring and decorative rocks be utilized. He asked staff what other sidewalk improvements are beingworked on besides the sidewalks that need to be in compliance with the American with Disability Act. '' Assistant City Manager/Acting Public Works Director Hawkes Worth explained that most t.the improvements are currently the median improvements, where decorativ- ks are being installed; how- -rr, here is no sidewalks being added. Acting Public Works Manager Sullivan stated that any sidewalk Olt cludes replacing any damaged, trip hazardous, or destroyed portions of the sidewal . kAmolo Council Member Ly asked staff to consider mo*ee•1e.3* =t' sidewalk wh-making improvements around the City. Counci ' -mber Armenta r � to the >> _Cp i ncil meeting at 7:11 p.m. Mayor Pro °- lark stated shettendeo the Southern California Association of Governments sponsored conference on ig, walking, a ®y ide sharing. She explained that Supervisor Javier Hernandez at Hilda Solis office spoke autprotected'ike lanes along the rivers and flood control channel. Council Member Armen anked the residents for attending the"Clean Up Day"hosted by the Beautification Committee; he commended Brian Lewin for a very successful event and thanked Consolidated Republic Services for donating lunch to the children who volunteered. Ms.Armenta also thanked staff for discussing graffiti and providing outlets to combat this issue. She added that schools from the Garvey School District invited staff and the City Council to their Read Across America event on March 2nd. Council Member Ly asked about the status of the proposed jogging trail at Zapopan Park. Staff has submitted all information including preliminary designs of the walking trail. He added that there should not be any issues with what the City has proposed, including the acceptance of repairs and maintenance of the walking trail. Council Member Ly suggested that the City's Capital Improvement Project list include in the future, possible parking structures along Garvey Avenue and Valley Boulevard to alleviate some, the pressure off Valley Boulevard. f'' r Council MemberArmenta stated that many residents have complained atioi fhe lane reduction on Walnut Grove Avenue. Mf.c:�i Acting Public Works Manager Sullivan explained that Walrlut'Grove willrcontinue to maintain, t o banes of traffic in both directions. In regards to the medians on Town<Center Drive on Montebello Boulevard and San Gabriel Boulevard, those have existing medians and no new me ianyre being added. The,project involves removing the existing asphalt and pavement that runs through the medians to create decorative landscape rather than hardscape. Mr. Sullivan stated thatfthe specifications of t i project call for a duration of 45 days. 5.
