Letter Requesting Denial of Fireworks Stand Permit at 3365 Walnut Grove AvenueMay 26, 2015
To: Rosemead City Council
From: Tenants of 3365 Walnut Grove Ave
Subj: Request to Deny Permit for Fireworks Stand
We, the below signed owners of the businesses located at the above
address respectfully request that the City deny approval for the retail
sale of fireworks at said address. The fireworks stand has had a
negative impact on our small parking lot and our businesses. There are
a total of 40 spaces, 2 of them Handicap. This location hosts a very
busy (and growing) coin laundry, hair salon, fishing tackle, water store
and coffee shop. Each of these businesses already struggle to maintain
enough parking for each of their customers and adding the fireworks
stand only makes matters worse. We (tenants) lose about 20% -25% of
our parking just for the stand and it's staffing. When in operation we
can lose an additional 15%+ in parking stall availability. Since the
weekends are the busiest for all of us, the prospect of enduring another
year similar to last year is unacceptable, especially since July 4 falls on a
Saturday! All of us have experienced the sight of customers driving
away when unable to find a parking stall. We feel that it is extremely
unfair to us, the business owners who have invested thousands of
dollars to attract and keep that elusive customer. Speaking for myself, I
just purchased over $100,000 of new equipment for my laundry which
is scheduled to be installed within the next 2 -3 weeks. We are planning
new promotions to attract customers and the last thing I want to see
are new customers driving away, unable to find parking.
We are also aware that last year there was another fireworks stand
located at the corner of Walnut Grove & Garvey with ample parking
and less than a quarter mile from our location. We therefore urge the
City Council to deny the issuance of an operating permit for a fireworks
stand at our location, 3365 Walnut Grove Ave.
Respectfully submitted,
L J
