CC - Item 5A - Paratransit System Update AlE*M F9 ROSEMEAD CITY COUNCIL PAPCIVIC PRIDE STAFF REPORT inill7/^CORPORATED `P9 TO: THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL FROM: JEFF ALLRED, CITY MANAGER v DATE: JULY 14, 2015 SUBJECT: PARATRANSIT SYSTEM UPDATE SUMMARY As the City Council is aware, the contract for paratransit services in the City of Rosemead (Dial-a-Ride and Fixed Route) expired on June 30, 2015. Southland Transit is continuing operation of the paratransit services on a month-to-month contract until the Request for Proposals (RFP) process is completed and a new contract is issued. The City Council will be presented with staff's recommendation for services at the August 11, 2015 meeting and service under the new contract is expected to begin October 1, 2015. Part of this new service includes the elimination of commuter connect services between the Rosemead Place shopping center and the El Monte transit depot and Metrolink station due to high costs and low ridership numbers. Along with issuing the RFP for services, the City Council authorized the acquisition of 5 new gasoline buses on April 14, 2015. The delivery of those buses is expected in August and will be turned over to the successful bidder for operation. This will provide approximately two months for the successful bidder to mobilize and prepare the buses for operation. The specifications of the buses has been attached for reference and are similar to the buses currently in service. Staff Recommendation It is recommended that the City Council provide input and direction regarding the transit system RFP or bus acquisition process if any changes are required. PUBLIC NOTICE PROCESS This item has been noticed through the regular agenda notification process. Submitted By: Matthe E.
