RE: APPROVAL OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND AUTHORIZATION TO
SEEK BIDS FOR STREET IMPROVEMENTS ON LORICA STREET- CDBG
PROJECT NO. P76302
The subject project includes reconstruction and widening of Lorica Street,from Temple City
Boulevard to the west end, from the existing sub-standard roadway to the standard width
of 36 feet. The west end of the street will be constructed as a cul-de-sac within the 50-foot
public right-of-way.
The street improvements on Lorica Street include reconstruction of pavement, new curb
and gutter, sidewalk, parkway trees, and street lights. The project also include installation
of a storm drain mainline system in Temple City Boulevard, from Lorica Street to Valley
Boulevard, to collect storm runoff from Lorica Street.
The proposed schedule for construction is as follows:
Receive Bids August 12, 1998
Award Contract August 25, 1998
Begin Work September 14, 1998
Complete Work November 13, 1998
The specifications have been reviewed and are acceptable to the City Engineer. The
Engineer's estimate for construction is $308,000. Construction of the project is funded by
the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council approve the plans and specifications and authorize
advertisement for bids by the City Clerk.

LONG BEACH
Attached for your consideration is information on the aforementioned conference. This year the
League of California Cities celebrates it's 100th Anniversary. The conference provides local
officials with the opportunity of touching base on current issues, especially the continued attack
on local government financing.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Council authorize the attendance of any Councilmember, the City
Attorney, the City Manager and staff as designated by the City Manager.
