SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR INSTALLATION OF RED CURB AT 2542 N. SAN GABRIEL
BOULEVARD - GARVEY WHOLESALE BEVERAGE, INC.
DISCUSSION
Staff received a request from Mr. Phillip Capriccio of Garvey Wholesale Beverage, Inc. to install red
curb in front of his business(see attachments). Based on the field review of the location, this request
will provide additional visibility for customers exiting his business.
On August 6, 1998, the Traffic Commission voted 5-0 to approve the staff recommendation to install
red curb at 2542 N. San Gabriel Boulevard
RECOMMENDATION
The Traffic Commission recommends that the City Council APPROVE the installation of red curb
in front of 2542 N. San Gabriel Boulevard, as shown on Figure 1 (Attachment"A"). A copy of the
staff report is attached for the Council's review.

REQUEST
A letter has been received from Mr. Phillip Capriccio, Vice President of Garvey
Wholesale Beverage, Inc. Garvey Wholesale Beverage, Inc. is located at 2542
N. San Gabriel Boulevard. Mr. Capriccio is requesting red curb in front of his
property to provide additional visibility for customers exiting his business. Mr.
Capriccio's letter is attached.
DICSUSSION
Garvey Wholesale is located on the east side of San Gabriel Boulevard in the
vicinity of Newmark Avenue. On-site parking is available for customers of
Garvey Wholesale. Several cars were parked in front of Garvey Wholesale and
in the general vicinity on San Gabriel Boulevard. The vehicles appeared to be
related to the different businesses on San Gabriel-Boulevard.
Generally, City Policy has been to install red curb, at the recommendation of
staff, in front of properties at the request of property/business owners with the
approval of the affected property/business owners.
Based on field review of the location, the installation of red curb adjacent to the
driveway access of Garvey Wholesale will provide additional visibility for vehicles
exiting the business.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the installation of 30 feet of red curb south of and 50 feet of
red curb north of the driveway access of Garvey Wholesale. Figure 1 depicts this
recommendation.

SUBJECT : Vehicle Parking in Front of 2542 N. San Gabriel Blvd.
We have a concern about vehicles, particularly trucks, parking
in front of our property at 2542 N. San Gabriel Blvd. , Rosemead,
because of multiple accidents occurring when vehicles are
exiting our parking lot.
We have 400-500 customers a day, and they cannot see the
oncoming traffic moving beth north and south, but especially
north, on San Gabriel Blvd. This creates a traffic hazard when
our customers and our employees leave our driveway.
Our request is to have the curb north and south of our driveway
painted red. This would increase visibility for traffic exiting
our driveway and would decrease the number of accidents by
eliminating this traffic hazard.
