SUMMARY
The City Council will consider authorizing the attendance of the Mayor who wishes to attend the
United States Conference of Mayors in Washington, DC on January 23-25, 2019.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the attendance, at City expense, of the Mayor
to attend the United States Conference of Mayors in Washington, DC on January 23-25, 2019.
ANALYSIS
The Expense and Use of Public Resources Policy, adopted by City Council Resolution No. 2005-
47, requires prior City Council approval for out-of-state travel beyond an adjacent state. Funding
for this purpose is contained in the City's annual budget.

direct conversations with national leaders, discuss issues of importance to
cities, and share best practices during the 87th Winter Meeting in
Washington, DC on January 23-25, 2019 at the Capital Hilton Hotel. Under
the leadership of Conference President Columbia, SC Mayor Steve
Benjamin, this meeting will be focused on our three overarching themes:
Infrastructure, Innovation, & Inclusion. This will be a critical time in
Washington as the new 116th Congress begins to establish its legislative
agenda.

Agenda Outline
Our meeting will begin on Wednesday morning with a new mayors/first
time attendees orientation, followed by mayor -to -mayor peer exchanges,
plenary sessions, and much more over the course of the three days in
Washington. Here is the agenda outline; updates will be posted to
usmayors.org and be available in the USCM app, available for iPhone, iPad,
and Android in the App Store and Google Play.
