SUBJECT: 2021 BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION EVENTS
SUMMARY
Due to the current effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on public events, staff would like to
discuss and get direction on how to proceed with the 2021 Beautification Commission Annual
events.
DISCUSSION
The Beautification Commission coordinates the following three annual community events:
Civic Pride Day (April), Beautification Awards (August -September), and the Holiday Decoration
Awards (December). In the year 2020, the Coronavirus Pandemic and Stay at Home Orders
mandated by the Governor forced the Beautification Commission events to change its platform
to a virtual platform.
As new guidelines are being released for reopening and Stay at Home orders are updated,
in-person events continue to be restricted and limited. City events at this time have been
cancelled or modified for 2021 until we can ensure safety protocols are in place to limit the
spread of the Coronavirus. In preparation for the upcoming Beautification Commission events
for 2021, the City staff is requesting the Commission's direction on the following events.
• Cancelling the 2021 Civic Pride Day that takes place in April.
• Host the Beautification Awards virtually to an earlier date April — June.
• Host the Holiday Decoration Awards virtually, unless in-person and public gatherings are
permitted by November 2021.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
That the Beautification Commission discuss and provide direction.
