SUBJECT: 8TH ANNUAL VIRTUAL BEAUTIFICATION AWARDS
SUMMARY
The Beautification Commission will discuss the award categories for the 81' Annual
Beautification Awards.
DISCUSSION
The Beautification Awards will be held virtually due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and
to adhere to Executive Orders from Governor Newsom's Office and County of Los Angeles
Health orders.
To begin preparing for the 8"' Annual Virtual Beautification Awards, the Beautification
Commission will discuss the award categories (Attachment A). Historically, the Beautification
Awards is held during the months of June to August. However, this year, it will be held during
April to June to allow applicants to show off their gardens when they are in full bloom.
The Beautification Awards recognizes residents and businesses for improvements and
maintenance of their properties that contribute to enhancing the beauty and livability of
Rosemead. The Beautification Commission will judge participants on three categories with the
grand prize to be awarded the Beautifying Rosemead Award.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
That the Beautification Commission discuss and provide direction on the 8"' Annual
Beautification Awards categories.

FISCAL IMPACT
The City does not fund the Beautification Awards event. The Commission will seek donations
from local businesses to assist with the ability to provide prizes to the winning participants. The
event will be virtual this year; City staff anticipate a minimal expense of $300 towards prizes.

Virtual Beautification Awards Guidelines
• Only residences and non -residences, including businesses and non -profits, excluding
City facilities, within the City of Rosemead are eligible for nomination.
• Nominees must have no active code enforcement violations on the property or other related
issues with the City of Rosemead.
• City of Rosemead employees including Council Members, appointed officials and their
immediate families are not eligible.
• HOW TO SUBMIT: To be eligible, a prospective nominee (or nominator of same) must
submit an email with their name, address, phone #, a minimum of three (3), but no more
than (5) photos of their property, to be autifyrosemead (cocityofrose mead.orq, by the
designated due date as determined by the Beautification Commission. All submittals must
be emailed. Submittals will NOT be accepted via the City's social media outlets (e.g.,
Facebook, Instagram).
• JUDGING PROCESS: The Beautification Commission will judge each nominated property
based on the photos submitted. The winners will be determined by the highest average
score in each of the categories, except for the Beautifying Rosemead Award, which is not
scored separately, and will be determined by the highest overall average among all
other categories combined. No nominee shall win in more than one category.
• The winners will be announced at the Commission's meeting (2nd Wednesday of the month)
following the designated due date.
• The winning recipients will be presented with a Beautification Award lawn sign to display
on their property, along with other prizes, and will be recognized on the City's social media.
City staff will deliver the awards to the winners immediately following the Commission
meeting that the winners are announced at.
• The Award categories are as follows:
Enchanted Entryway — Warm and inviting entryways that says, "Welcome to
Rosemead!"
Best Curb Appeal Award — Did a property's landscape catch your attention when
you were passing by?
The Rose Award — Delight us with roses of any shape, color, size or quantity. Show
off your Rosemead spirit!
Beautifying Rosemead Award (Grand Prize) — The "Best in Show' award!
