ROSEMEAD TRAFFIC COMMISSION MEETING
January 15, 2009
The regular meeting of the Rosemead Traffic Commission was called to order by Vice-Chairman
Masuda at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 8838 E. Valley Boulevard, Rosemead, California.

OFFICIALS PRESENT: Deputy Public Works Director Marcarello and Senior Management Analyst

1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES December 4, 2008 -Regular Meeting
Commissioner Russell made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Deary, to approve the
minutes along with clarifications. Vote resulted in:
Yes: Deary, Lewin, Russell
No: None
Abstain: None
Absent: Knapp and Masuda
2. PUBLIC COMMENT FROM THE AUDIENCE
Sheryl Blum -She asked what the status was on the parking situation on Earl Street and the
employees from California Mission Inn.
3. NEW BUSINESS
A. STREET NAME SIGN COLOR OPTIONS
SUMMARY
On November 6, 2008, the Traffic Commission received an update on the City's street
signage replacement program. This program is part of the City's efforts to meet recently
adopted reflectivity standards through the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). There
placement program includes developing an inventory of existing signs, determining costs to
replace these signs, and a creating a replacement plan and schedule for installing new signs.
Staff has developed sample street name signs for consideration and is looking for input on
colors for the new signs.

Staff Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Traffic Commission review the street name sign options, select a
preferred sign color and forward a recommendation to the City Council for consideration.
Traffic Commission reviewed the street sign options, made suggestions, and asked that this item
be brought back for additional review.
Commissioner Deary made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Lewin, to direct staff to
bring back different mock ups similar to what the City of Montebello has and should include
City of Rosemead on the top, take off City Seal, and reduce font size on Avenue, Street, and
Boulevard. The Commission also asked to view the signs outdoors. Vote resulted in:
Yes: Deary, Lewin, Russell
No: None
Abstain: None
Absent: Knapp and Masuda

The meeting adjourned at 7:42 p.m. The next meeting will be scheduled on a later time and will
