SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF LIST OF PROCLAMATIONS FOR CALENDAR YEAR
2023
SUMMARY
At the end of the calendar year, a list of proclamations is approved for the following year.
Attached for the City Council's consideration is the proposed list for 2023 Proclamations. The
proposed list of proclamations includes a new proclamation for National Water Safety Month for
May 2023. National Water Safety Month raises awareness about water safety and highlights the
importance of public education regarding safer practices for kids and adults in and around water.
To facilitate the process, City staff compiled a list of routine proclamations (Attachment A)
approved on an annual basis. By approving a list annually, staff will coordinate proclamation
presentations with ample time. Any item not on the list will be presented to the City Council for
discussion and approval before officially declaring the proclamation.
Proclamations are ceremonial documents to honor an individual or organization, celebrate or
create awareness or commemorate a particular day, month, or year. The following procedure to
issue any future proclamations is:
• A list of Proclamations, routine in nature for regional or statewide events or recognitions
will be approved under the Consent Calendar on an annual basis. These Proclamations
are automatically agendized under Presentations without City Council discussion.
• New proclamation requests will be agendized for discussion and City Council direction.
The item will be agendized and presented at the next City Council meeting if approved.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council approve the 2023 List of Proclamations.
