SUMMARY
The City Council will consider authorizing the attendance of Mayor Pro Tem Margaret Clark who
wishes to attend the National League of Cities 2023 Summer Board and Leadership Meeting in
Tacoma, Washington, from July 19-21, 2023.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council authorize the attendance of Mayor Pro Tem Margaret
Clark to attend the National League of Cities 2023 Summer Board and Leadership Meeting in
Tacoma, Washington from July 19-21, 2023 and any related expense during the conference.
ANALYSIS
The Expense and Use of Public Resources Policy, adopted by City Council Resolution
No. 2005-47, requires City Council approval for out-of-state travel beyond an adjacent state.
Funding for this purpose is contained in the City's annual budget.

Description:
The 2023 NLC Summer Board and Leadership Meeting will take place in Tacoma, WA, July 19-21, and the
schedule of events is online here (https://www.nic.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Registration-tentative-
schedule-5.10.23.pdf). The Board of Directors, Federal Advocacy Committees, and Councils will convene
to discuss the organization's advocacy priorities, policy positions, and share resources needed to better
serve their communities. In addition, we have some "pre -meeting" activities scheduled for Tuesday, July 18
from our REAL and NLC University programs, which you can read more about during the registration
process.

once you are registered.
