SUBJECT: DISCUSSION ON DISPLAYING THE PRIDE FLAG IN THE MONTH OF
JUNE FOR PRIDE MONTH
SUMMARY
At the June 27, 2023, City Council Meeting, then -Mayor Pro Tem Steven Ly requested during
the Pride Month Proclamation presentation to bring back for discussion, possibly displaying the
Pride Flag next year in June for Pride Month.
BACKGROUND
On June 8, 2021, the City received a request from a member of the public to issue a Proclamation
declaring June as Pride month. By a majority vote, the City Council approved the request and
directed the City Clerk to add the Pride Proclamation to the list of approved proclamations, which
is reviewed and approved at the end of each calendar year.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council discuss and provide direction to staff.
