AUGUST 1, 2023
The special meeting of the Rosemead City Council was called to order by Mayor Ly
at 7:07 p.m., in the Rosemead City Hall Conference Room located at 8838 E. Valley Boulevard,
Rosemead, CA 91770.
PRESENT: Mayor Ly (teleconference), Mayor Pro Tem Clark, Council Members Dang, and Low
ABSENT: Council Member Armenta
STAFF PRESENT: City Clerk Hernandez
1. PUBLIC COMMENT
No comments were received.
2. MATTERS FROM MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
A. Interviews and Appointments to the Beautification Commission and Parks
Commission
Recommendation: That the City Council take the following actions:
1. Consider appointments to the Beautification Commission for three positions
to serve a two-year term.
2. Consider appointments to the Parks Commission for three positions to serve
a two-year term.
The City Council interviewed the following candidates for a City Commission:
• Larry Liu — Beautification Commission
• Katrina Yip — Beautification Commission
• Brian Gonzalez — Beautification Commission
• Vanessa Lane — Beautification Commission
• Oscar Martinez — Beautification Commission
• Rosanna Wang — Beautification Commission (Teleconference)
• Charlie Chavez — Parks Commission
• Karen Luau — Parks Commission
• Alina Hernandez — Parks Commission (Interviewed 7/31/23)
Mayor Ly reiterated that each City Commission has three open positions.

ACTION: Moved by Council Member Low and seconded by Council Member
Dang to re -appoint Larry Liu and Katrina Yip to the Beautification Commission for
a two-year term beginning July 1, 2023, ending June 30, 2025. The motion was
carried out by the following roll call vote AYES: Clark, Dang, Low, and Ly
ABSENT: Armenta
ACTION: Moved by Mayor Pro Tem Clark and seconded by Council Member
Low to appoint Vanessa Lane to the Beautification Commission for a two-year term
beginning July 1, 2023, ending June 30, 2025. The motion was carried out by the
following roll call vote AYES: Clark, Dang, Low, and Ly ABSENT: Armenta
ACTION: Moved by Mayor Pro Tem Clark and seconded by Council Member
Low to re -appoint Charlie Chavez and appoint Karen Luau and Alina Hernandez
to the Parks Commission, for a two-year term beginning July 1, 2023, ending
June 30, 2025. The motion was carried out by the following roll call vote
AYES: Clark, Dang, Low, and Ly ABSENT: Armenta
3. ADJOURNMENT
Mayor Ly adjourned the special meeting at 8:49 p.m. The next regular
City Council meeting was scheduled to take place on August 8, 2023, at 7:00 p.m.,
in the Rosemead City Hall Council Chamber.
