SUBJECT: APPROVAL TO ALLOW THE COMITE CIVICO LATINO-AMERICANO
USE OF ROSEMEAD PARK TO HOST A 2008 SPORT & FITNESS
COMMUNITY FAIR
SUMMARY
The Comite Civico Latino-Americano hosts an "Annual Festival del Deporte" (Sports &
Fitness Fair). This year they are requesting the use of Rosemead Park on Saturday,
January 26 & Sunday, January 27, from 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. This activity consists of
30 exhibitor booths featuring Healthcare Services, Fitness Awareness, Sport Education,
Community Services, Immigration, Finances/Sales, Real Estate/Home Loans, Job
Opportunities and Food & Beverage. In addition there will also be sport clinics, a health
fair with free vaccinations and examinations, an emphasis on fitness will be offered, as
well as some hands-on sporting techniques.
This activity is expected to attract around 3,000 participants over the two day period.
There is no cost to the public to attend the event or to the City of Rosemead for hosting
the fair.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommends that the City Council authorize Comite Civico Latino-Americano the
use of Rosemead Park on January 26 & 27.

ANALYSIS
There is no set-up or clean-up cost to the City and the Comite Civico Latino-Americano
will donate $1,500 for the use of the facilities. They will provide all the manpower,
equipment, advertising, generators, booths, port-a-potties, etc, necessary for an event
of this magnitude, as well as, $1,000,000 insurance policy and pay for all City permits
and regulations, fire, health, police, etc., which is required for a safe family event.
This first time activity at Rosemead Park would set the future location for this annual
event. It would also provide a very healthy, social and educational community program.
Teaming up with an organization such as Comite Covico Latino-Americano which is a
non-profit entity that creates opportunities for at-risk youths should provide an excellent
opportunity for the youth of Rosemead, and the City of Rosemead as a whole.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
There would be absolutely no cost to the City. In addition, the City would receive the
revenue of $1,500 for providing the facility, which could be put towards Rosemead Park
programs, i.e., 4th of July or Oktoberfest.
