CC - Item 2A - Safe Communities MonthMA -n TROCL.JMA4TION SAFE COMMUNITIES MONTH March 1 - 31, 2008 WHEREAS, the vitality of the City of Rosemead depends on how safe we keep our home, neighborhoods, work places and communities; and WHEREAS, crime and fear diminish our trust in others and in our institutions, threatening the community's health and prosperity; and WHEREAS, people of all ages must be made aware of what they can do to prevent themselves, their families, neighbors and co-workers from being harmed by drugs, violence and other crimes; and WHEREAS, people of all ages must unite all elements of the community in creating a safe, healthy, crime-free environment through a series of community-based programs; and WHEREAS, the major focus of this long-term commitment is to make a positive difference for our community by educating our youth and adults, by providing positive alternatives and role models for children and by unifying the support of the local community, including schools, businesses, religious organizations, service clubs, law enforcement and city government. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Rosemead City Council does hereby proclaim March 1 - 31, 2008 as SAFE COMMUNITIES MONTH in the City of Rosemead and urge all citizens, government agencies, public and private institutions and all businesses to increase their participation in our community's crime prevention efforts and thereby build more productive communities and improve the quality of life for all. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 25th day of March, 2008.
